My advice? Go to a less-than-reputable computer dealer. You know the hole in the wall one run by Jethro and his Father. See if they don't have a box of pulled components. Grab 5 network cards (look at them make sure nothing is visably wrong) and offer them $10.

Failing that use Windows to make it a server. I have a 800Mhz file and print server running Ceasar FTP. Works just fine and it stays up for weeks at a time. Only time I reboot it is when I get on it to change stuff.

would work PCI network card, and theres a program called NXMachine you could get. not sure on the system requirments, but they does look like a old machine, there wouldnt a lot of room for a linux OS to go on there. may be better off running that one on Windows. Like Windows 2000 or somthing, thats what i would reconmend.

i am assuming you will only be using it for the following:

File Storage
FTP
Web Site Host

basically thats all you would be able to get out of that machine.

I agree find the cheapest ones you can find... I didn't check where you live but I have a couple of spare ones laying around if you want one. If the shipping's not too expensive I'll send you one. They all should be a Linsys 10/100 I believe... I'll have to check when I get home.
