Burn DVD(s) unless you have way too much. It didn't work when you plugged both into the router and enabled file sharing? Did you make sure they were both on the same workgroup?

Is there a way that you can connect computer 1 to computer 2 without the router? This may eliminate the router if its a problem. Anyway what you should do is connect compy 1 and 2 to router or compy 1 to compy two. Then go to start>Programs>Accessories>communications>network setup wizard. Run the wizard on both computers. Put the music in a a shared folder, like my shared documents. Then look for that folder on the other computer under my network places.

Hmm. Wouldn't you need a crossover cable if you're connect compy 1, directly to compy 2 ? Just a thought.

do you have an internet security app like norton or pc cillin installed?? or a software firewall of some description......even if you have the network set up correctly, you will have to disable the firewalls to allow the connections or the firewall will view it as a security attack and block the communications.
if you are still having hassles then I'll post a longer explanation of correctly configuring your network settings.
