I was totally new to wireless a few days ago (and still am) but once I figured out the basics m Linksys wrt54gl (same as a wrt54g v4 i believe which is supposed to be better than the new v5).
The linksys is currently supporting 3 computers, one wired and 2 wireless. It does an admiral job (so far) I have a external USB Zonet wireless adapter, it gets ALOT better connection then the DLink PCI card it replaced (now I have a brand new Dlink PCI card for sale, only used for about 6 hours). The only gripe with the zonet is the drivers on the cd do not work !! But dload the drivers from zonetusa.com and it works alot better than the pci dlink. The usb zonet is around $20. Router: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16833124190 USB adapter: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16833130111 I don't know about using this with DLink devices, but I do NOT recommend this card with a Linksys wrt54gl (don't know about other versions of linksys) http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16833127145

I would much rather recommend a pci card then a usb card, also personal preference.

DO the pci's have any benefits over usb? Like I said the pci dlink would show 4/5 to 5/5 bars and say "very good" connection then would drop the connection 2 min later.
The zonet has NEVER dropped the link. Like I said maybe the pci is inheritently better, but the usb has the long cord and can get the antenna higher? WIll that be a benefit ?

Going by NewEgg's user rating it had 5 stars, as did the zonet.
Since I was new to wireless I went with the best ratings, thats why I bought the WRT54GL router (and have been happy with all but the dlink pci)

D-Link devices have always caused me a headache.
My parents have a D-Link router which randomly loses internet except if I disable the wireless....without wireless it is all good, but I'm stuffed if I can find out what is causing it.
