Yes Tomato supports the WRT54G Linksys.

Along with the Linksys WRT54G/GL/GS and the Buffalo WHR-G54S/WHR-HP-G54.

You need v4 or below i thk the older routers that still ran linux based firmware. My 54gs i have dd-wrt on it and my linksys wirless n i have dd-wrt on it to. Used it to make them connect to each others wireless and extend the lan alot more stable that way.

I'm a big fan of DD-WRT personally, just because the massive amounts of information available for it. That router is probably v5 or v6 which is a pain to flash with different firmware and has reduced amounts of memory. And if it's a later version it won't even work with it.

The WRT54GL will work for sure. Also, I'm a big fan of the Buffalo routers

I THINK the 54GL is a v4 that is very modifiable, the L stands for linux or open source
