Figure out your upload speed, and limit your torrent upload to about 80-90% of that. Your downloads will suffer if you can't upload torrent bit requests because you're uploading too much.

That's a lie, if you follow what I said in my first post, you will get just as good, if not better, speeds as a DDL.

Your gonna notice the higher speeds from private trackers as the uploaders are generally fast and there are a fair amount to maintain ratios and what not

30%? You will get rubbish speeds. You want to use a settings calculator which has the best ratio, as determined by the protocol itself.

Ok i've just discovered a new fact today that here in the UK, the top six ISP advertise that you can "get up to" - a certain speed e.g. 8MB when in actual fact you may only be getting 2.7MB depending in your area. The is a new inquiry to this in the UK to stop this. Don't know what the situation is in North america but it maybe similar.

Also if you have a high Bandwidth using a connection like 8MB your connection maybe throttled during peak times such as 9 till 6. But if your torrents are slow its maybe because Windows XP 'SP2 in particular' only use 10 half open TCP/IP connections. This badly limits your connection. It has nothing to do with your down/up ratio. I would suggest bitcomet then download a patch from eDonkey to open the connections to say 50 or 100. Then you will be connected to more seeds and better speeds.

I have a 20MB connection and I had this problem. Used utorrent and only getting 50-80KB a sec. Downloaded and patched bitcomet, now I get over MEG A SECOND!!!!

Hope this helps buddy.

You did not realise this? It's been going on for ages.
Unfortuantly, it's just the way it is, technically they are not lying, you could get up to it, if you live in the right area. The line testers do tell you. British Telecom are some of the worst though, they artificially limit your line.

As to your thing, here is a better tool for the job, the TCP optimiser: http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

And once again, I really do not recommend BitComet, it prioritieses other BitComet clients which is bad for the BitTorrent protocol and other users. uTorrent, I have also found, tends to perform better anyway.
