NOD32 is the best, from what I've heard, but it's not free. Avast and AntiVir seem to be great choices in free antivirus though.

Make sure you sandpaper the hole, and then put some U rubber over it to avoid sharp edges. Put some grease around the newly drilled hole, and then screw your computer, screw it hard. Maybe install some UV lights and turn em up to indicate that your computer is also excited.

Right now NOD32 Antivirus is the best IMHO. It works fine with NT 4.0 (tell your dad to upgrade) & Vista 32/64.

I used to use AVG and I would swear by it. However since installing Avast, all of my rigs running it have gotten 100% faster on startup since it uses almost no resources, Avast also has a boot time scan...and it can scan during your screen saver! My new personal favorite is Avast. Its 100% free (you just have to register it to your email) so give it a try yourself and see if you like it as much as I do.

I've also heard of NOD32 but I think I've only heard of it from fellow OCN'ers. Avira and AVG are also pretty common...but my personal favorite is still Avast because of its being so very lite on resources.

EDIT: Wow you guys are fast...looks like you've decided to go NOD32 route. I'm just going to point one thing out for ya...why not give the free alternative a try out before you spend money on AntiVirus? If you don't like it you can always uninstall it later to install NOD32.
