Just wondering which ISP is it ?
Also, regarding sharing Internet, I would definetly recommend checking settings, because I usually have the opposite problem when I try to share stuff via LAN. Regarding gettings no servers, have you tried another computer with an internet connection ?

Networking Nut

Unforunately your details are sparse, so I'm assuming your setup how most people are. A-DSL with the modem handling the PPPoE connection.
If so simply connect the modem to one NIC, and connect the other computers or switch to the second NIC. Open up windows network center or whatever its called, highlight both of the connection right mouse click and bridge them. That should work just as if the second NIC is plugged into the modem without having to use windows fancy connection setting. As for the Steam problem it could be a firewall, I suggest you make sure windows firewall aint running. Which inadvertently could also be causing your connection sharing problem as well.
