Default Best Wireless Router / Laptop Network Card

Ok, here's the deal. I got my Beautiful Dell laptop with a 8600M GT in it that actually plays any game i throw at it at pretty decent speeds. Problem is the Linksys WRT54G v5, flashed with latest DD-WRT, doesn't connect well with the internal network card inside my laptop or the other 2 in the house. It's perfect for traditional means but when I play BF2... or any online game really, Ping spikes and lag start hitting bad. I use Vista Anti-lag and it DOES work, but unless I got near perfect signal strength, one room away from the router it lags with Pings running randomly from 4ms to 600+ms every few seconds.... I tweaked the router about 20 times with a lot of different opinions and tweaks but no luck...

So I say, oh well, it's good for now and a basic network.

As for what I'm asking, I want to hear from OCN Members, if they have a laptop with vista, the best router for gaming and a laptop adapter i can just plug into it's side slot and get gaming.

Thank you

I would recommond a D-link DIR-615. I love it as it provides WPA2 which is the latest wireless security and provides wireless N. I haven't tried it with online games yet.

Have you tried v24 under beta section? Have you tried upping the signal quality to say like -84 see if that helps, I do have a laptop and a 360 elite that hooks up to my wrt54gl wirelessly and I have no problems at all, laptop does not have vista though just XP. My router has been running for 16 days with np's.

But anyways for a new router I have heard some really good stuff on the linksys wireless-N, that it provides really good quality signal, but then you might have to get new wireless cards for your laptops and w/e else you have.

I've got the WRT54G and I love it. All my laptops work fine with it and I've never had any problems using my internal wireless cards.

What's optimal settings? I've messed with DD-WRT for days and still haven't got a decent enough setting.
