Default Mac Address Tracker?

Hey guys, my buddy was at a coffee shop, and like an idiot he left his laptop at his table to go get another cup of coffee, and when he returned his laptop was gone. So he's pretty much screwed. I had an idea though.

He knows the MAC address and If the guy who stole it connected to the internet is there anyway he could track his laptop? I mean if he got the IP the laptop is using couldn't he tell what city or state it's in and what not?

Anyway, maybe you guys can tell me if what I'm thinking is logical/possible or not, and maybe tell me a program or something that could do this.

Thanks for any help guys, it's one of those very expensive tablet PCs so I wish I could help this guy out.

You can track down the laptop via the Computer Name, off course if the thief wasn't smart enough to change it.

Contact the police. There is nothing you can do reliably like this.

It can be done with the right equipment and knowing where he might be,but I think for people like us the only thing we can do is call the police like lattyware suggested, maybe there is some security footage that can be looked at or something.
