I got a new Cable Modem at Fry's last night. I plugged it in and it worked as soon as I plugged it in.
__________________Aren't I supposed to call comcast and give them the mac address on the modem so that they set it up with my account? I don't understand how it just worked. Before this, I moved and I called Comcast. They told me they could not see the modem so they had me trade in my modem for another one. The one they gave me a few days ago was an old one, had 2004 date on it too. But when they cold not see this modem on their end either. That is why I Bought one for myself. And it worked as soon as I plugged it in. Should I call comcast or should I just leave it as is since its working just fine? Thx for any Suggestions or comments!

That is kinda weird, unless their system just isn't updating correctly...i mean, they couldn't even transfer a MAC address number for my mother from one account to another without 3 weeks of phone calls, so, anything's possible with that company. I say just see what happens, if it stops working, call them.

The modem that you bought, what brand was it? Was it the same kind of modem they use anyway? That does sound wierd...

Your modem will go into an inactive state after the next reset it goes through - it just hasn't updated on the backbone.

Not, the first modem I had was a Moterolla that they use to connect both a Telephone and Internet. That one did not work when I moved. The second modem was a name I never heard of, but it looked old and cheap. So i bought me a new one. Works great so far hehe.
