Ever since I installed my 8800GTS 640, the network card on my motherboard
disabled itself... it's set to Enabled in BIOS. I have no idea what to do, aside from getting an NIC.

Have you tried to just enable the nic in the device manager?

No, it's not a software issue. Let me be more clear: The LAN activity and power lights don't come on at all. I have tried different cables, and switches/ports. I can't update the BIOS.

some of the vid card cds come with network drivers. see if you installed that one. if so, deinstall. you may also have to reinstall the nic driver for your mainboard.

It can't be a driver issue, otherwise the LAN power LED would be on

It might be an IRQ issue, with conflicting assignments. Some network cards are on the PCI-E bus, I know mine is. See if there is any mention of manual IRQ assignment in the handbook.

not sure. my experience is that the power LED at the NIC connection doesnt light unless theres a cable connected and proper driver loaded. worth a look see just to eliminate variables.

Are you sure its enabled in device manager, that's the first thing I would look at.If you have access to another computer try switching out the NICs and see if there is a change. It could be the slot so try a different one. Also you could try uninstalling the NIC then reboot and reinstall see if that corrects the problem.

I can't find IRQs in the BIOS, and that sounds like the problem.
It doesn't show up at all in Device Manager. It's an onboard Gigabit. I'm emailing ECS on the matter
