Okay so I'm playing COD4 and my fps stay pretty much at 125 with some dips into the 90's occasionally depending on the action. But for some reason I'm noticing some type of lag, not sure what it is but it's like something in the background was my guess. So I switch my G15's lcd over to performance meter and my cpu is up close to 100%, I alt-tab and nothing looks out of order but I do see my anti-virus there with a large pool of resources, btw I use ESET nod32, so I pull up the control center and quit the application, it asks me if I'm sure and I am so click its off. Ok back in game and my cpu usage is back down to normal usage and the game is flying again. I alt-tab again to look at task manager to see whats up and their is still a nod32 process using a large portion of resources, hit end process but as soon as I do it pops right back up. Well I uninstalled the whole thing, yup no more slow-downs now. But I'm nekkid to the world of virus'. Might not be a problem since I don't visit disreputable sites.
Anyone know of a less obtrusive software that won't slow down games?

I've always used NOD32 and never had a problem with it. Is it running your cpu 100% without the game running? I would try to add the game .exe to it's allowed list. Maybe it doesn't like it or something?

I would say just remove the AV software all together. But I've used AVG and Avast and they both seem pretty light weight and don't use a lot of resources.

AVG is what I use and its very low key and not a performance hog at all.

Yah I'm going to go without AV software and see how it goes. worst case scenario is a reformat so I don't mind.

Don't do that. Never take off AV/Firewall. If you have problems look up the tcp/udp ports and allow them. I think it will say in the manual.

I don't think it was my anti-virus that was causing the issue with COD4 as I noticed the same thing again while playing. Some maps when I move around certain parts of them my CPU usage goes up to ~92% and has nothing to do with AV software I'm sure of it now. I needed a new license for Nod32 anyway so I will most likely put it back on. I'm am wondering if its my x-fi that's causing problems with COD4, googling x-fi and COD4 I found a bunch of hits with people having similiar problems. My x-fi sounds good but it is such a PITA. I have trouble with being able to hear myself over the microphone and its irritating as hell.
Btw I do have firewall turned on but no AV atm.

I use NOD32 and its superb, it is the lightest AV on system resorces that you can get, its never slowed my gaming down and its got great detection rates... Are you using the latest version ??? if not try it, i dont reconmend you using no AV.
