WRT54GL or w/e for modders (recommended thanks to its large ammount of RAM compared to normal G routers)
load a custom firmware onto the router and "hack" it. Boosts speed throughout you're network by allowing plugins and stuff to help packet utilization, ect. EDIT: I see you've already made that decision XD Cool.

Wow, incredibly helpful thread as I was looking around for the same thing as well.
__________________I do happen to have a Linksys WRT54GS (I think) lying around, but it always seemed to give me connection issues. I could never forward ports through it correctly, my PS3 always had a flaky connection, and my Wii would absolutely never connect through the wireless at all. EDIT Apparently this router can be flashed to that opensource firmware according to Newegg reviews, but when I tried to hook it up directly to my modem it refused to work, and Roadrunner tech support (One of the worst decisions I've made in a good long while) told me that it was not supported and therefore would never work.

I got my WRT54GL for $40 or $50. You have to first flash the it to the micro firmware version, then restart the router, reset it, and flash it up to the full version. Also heatsinks are essential especially if you start cranking up the power.
