Exactly! Although, you COULD team up 4 separate internet connections if you hooked those 4 ports up to cable modems instead of a router/switch.

Well, I kinda like the idea of bridging them to a 2GB lane... I might try that out, and see how she does.

Right now, one of my ports has 44,000up and 60,000down, and the other has 230,000up and 1,300,000 down (packets sent FYI). I am obviously getting more packets through one than the other. Maybe I need to try this "load balancing" tactic? Info?

Thanks guys for clearing up my misconception of the whole up/downstream thing.

I'd like to get a MB with dual RJ45, and I was also wanting to know the advantages. All the sales hype tags them as upstream/downstream (At least that's what Logan on TigerDirect says, lol). I'd like to see a detailed guide/thread on this somewhere if anyone knows the location of one to post or can create one. Thanks! +1 for KinZee for asking a great question!

A motherboard having dual RJ45 connectors doesn't mean squat.

It needs to SPECIFICALLY say that it supports load balancing or they are just two separate network connections.
