Default PCMCIA Wifi Cards?

I'm looking for one and i'm not all too familiar with it. So i have a few questions.

  1. What are the best ones for range?
  2. What are the most cost-efficient cards?
  3. Any particular brands?
  4. Recommend any specific card for budget?
  5. Anything else i should know?
Thanks for the help. Mainly i need a cheaper card with allot of range.

Is this for laptop or for PC adapter? I am not sure if this helps, but I have purchased 2 different adapters and card for PC and couldn't get them to work right. I think they were for Verizon if it matters.

If it is for a lappy, not sure what the best is. GL

PCMCIA is only available in laptops i believe, so yes it is a laptop. Acer Aspire 5040, nice thing for the price (way back when anyways.) Running Vista in case there may be drivers to worry about.

There are PCI PCMCIA adapters available. I have friends that live in areas where there is no ISP, so the wanted to use their cellular cards with their desktops. In the end, they got USB sticks. Now, this was for cellular service and not just wifi, so I am not sure it applies. (well, since you are using it in a lappy, it doesn't apply anyhow )

Proxim's Orinoco cards offer very good reception quality but if you're worried about compatibility with Vista you may be better off going for a card with a generic chipset such as one manufactured by RaLink. Belkin and Linksys both use RaLink chipsets in their wireless adapters.

Asus P5N32-E SLi

Thermaltake Shark
CPU cooling
Tuniq Tower 120
OS
Vista x64 Business

Samsung 226BW 22" LCD
