Because of the odd set-up w/ our vonage and multiple routers I have to connect directly to the cable modem in order to host a game server for me and my friends. I've tried doing the port forwarding thing several times but the vonage adapter seems to be causing havoc. Even then It'd be preferable to come straight off the modem to my computer(s).
Is this even possible since the modem has 1 static IP? I'm no network engineer so I might be way off base here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thx.

Get a switch or a hub, plug both your Vonage and computers into that, then the switch into the modem. That should solve your problem.

Tried that. Hooked my 8-port Linksys switch to the modem then everything into the switch. nothing worked. it was weird... lol. I assumed it was because it needed a router to assign IPs and such.

The switch however, will show each device seperatly, and your ISP won't allow you on probally. I guess simply using a switch won't work . The only thing I can think of would be to set up a router before the modem, plug everything into it, and compleatly disable the firewall on the router.

They should make them i have a business class dsl modem that has the modem then 4 10./100 switch ports with a firewall also. I looked around and for life of me cant find a cable modem with more then 1 eithernet port.

And any idea how much extra per month it'd be to hook up another modem just for my office? We have a Motorola Surfboard bought for Cox back in NV but here they(time warner) use some weird brand. Quote:
![]() I found a "Cable Gateway" w/ everything but the kitchen sink built into it by Linksys but IDK if that's worth it. Plus we alread have: 2 Modems(1 supplied by TW, the other a nice Surfboard), a wired Linksys router, a wireless linksys router, Motorola vonage adapter. Not it that order tho

I would call up your ISP and ask how much it would be for another modem. Aside from the cost of the new modem, I think it's usually only a few $ a month more. It would be the "proper" way to do this at least. This may be hard to do, but if you find a router without a firewall in it, it should work perfectly for what you're trying to do also. (edit) NVM, I thought someone might have gone cheap and not had one, but it looks like even $15 routers have firewalls still. You would have to spend alot for some enterprise level stuff, which wouldn't be worth it for this.

Could you possibly give me an idea on why whenever the vonage adapter is behind anything more than the modem it fails to work? It doesn't seem to make sense to me?

Well, you could give this a shot: Since you seem to know the ports for your gaming, have you tried forwarding the proper ports to your computers, then making the vonage adapter the DMZ? Or, a little cleaner method would be to find the ports vonage needs and forwarding them to the adapter instead of making it a DMZ.

You need to put the vonage modem behind one of the routers , then forward the proper ports for vonage to work (Ports found here).
