Default extending antenna?

recently been dropping off connection from my router more often then i breath... and the wierd thing is it only happens after midday (which i suppose it's due to my bro's laptop)
the thing is, my network card is a D-Link DWL-G510 with a small antenna that is blocked by my stainless steel table so i guess that could be what is causing all the connection drop, since other computers in my house have no proble whatsoever...

so i am thinking of getting a wire and extend the antenna to a greater length to be placed above my table instead of buying a new network card again (this is actually just 2 months old and only fail recently for some reason)...

is it going to work? and will the wire gives off any weird electromagnetic charge to the area surrounding it? and most importantly what sort of wires should i use?

If the problem only happens during mid-day while there are other users on i would say the problem is much more relted to traffic than anything else. All of the traffic in your house, as well as anyone else in the nearby area, may be causing interference issue. Try changing your router to a different channel and see if this helps, there are several channels so you can try a few to find the best one for you.

sounds like something i would try later today... but i still want to extend my antenna because even when i have connection, it's very slow and unresponsive...

so i would like to know if there will be any side effect if i extend the antenna with a wire (such as random electromagnetic wave etc)

You are running MAC address filtering, and have WPA of some sort on right?

You could go to your local hardware store (bring your PCI card and and antennae) and look for like speakerwire or something that looks like it will fit. You can make a base for the new antennae out of cardboard, and then if you want to get real fancy, make a dish out of Tin foil pointing towards the WAP, that you you get even better signal.
