I was curious about the differences in speed of the CAT5 and CAT6 RJ-45 cable. Here are my results:
CAT5: ![]() CAT6: ![]() Looks like connection speeds didn't increase, however my ping was split in half ![]() IMO its worth getting CAT6.

How many times did you run each test?
You replace the cable to your modem? Cable to your router? Both?

i dont think running the test 2 times is definitive enough to say cat 6 is better than cat5.

Yeah, please elaborate. Were the results repeatable? How about in a game, did the cable type make a difference in ping?

I doubt a cut in ping like that was due to a changed cable. Transfer a file larger than 1 gig between two computers (each with gigabit ethernet) and post those results.

I did a test with each cable 2 times and choose the better score. Cable was connected directly to modem.

Cool, but were you using cat5e or just cat5 cabling?

Well... Cat6 is definitely better than Cat5/5e. However, real world gain to your ISP should be close to zero. Local networks should be improved though.
