Oh and I have to say that ALOT of the time I use Belkin I have had a bad experience. We have a Belkin wireless AP here in the office and its CRAP. It will just disconnect you and you will have to reset the darn thing. It is being replaced with Linksys now.

So one of the main causes could just be the hardware is of poor build. I hate Belkin with a vengeance.

I wasted my money on a belkin wireless n vision modem router not that long ago. The bloody thing just stops broadcasting for no reason, tried different channels and position in the house. Gonna be sending that one back for a refund.

Signal drops are usually down to bleed over from neighbouring wireless systems. Changing the channel SHOULD help but in my case (and probably yours as well) its just because this belkin equipment is crap.

3. You want to try and place your router in the center of your house hold as this will let Signals spread throughout your house more easily . Having a router in a corner next to a wall will solve nothing.

4. Have you updated the Drivers for your wireless reciever ?

5. No the Router Firmware cannot be interfered with by a Firewall APP such as NOD32. Its also VERY and I mean VERY unlikely there is any kind of corruption or infection on your router.

6. Have you tried removing/Disabling your FW/AV to see if this fixes the problem ?

7. Have you updated your router Firmware?

These are all things you need to consider.
Sorry i took so long to get back here, ive been on leave.

Ill start by saying that this is still occuring and it usually happens overnight, when my family and i go sleep my brother is the one up 1st usually and he jumps on the laptop and the wireless isnt working. Mind you, the router has been on all night, im assuming adsl router/medems arnt meant to be shut off. The connection icon says "Connected with limited connectivity" and its not untill i shut of the modem (restart it), till the wireless will connect properly.

I will answer your points.

1. It is positioned perfectly high up on my desk away from obstacles in a fairly open space.
2. Yes, the cordless phone/microwave are in the kitchen, that is atleast 30-40 feet away though. But the laptop is usually in the lounge with my bro. 15 or so feet away.
3. (same as #1)
4. The laptop uses its stock wireless, its an ACER, is this a problem?
5. Im glad that is cleared up for me =]
6. Yes i have, did not solve the problem.
7. I tried, but it said there is no update needed.

What i would really like to know is why it mostly happens when we 1st wake up and put the laptop on.

It also seems that most people who have replied in here seem to have had the same problem as myself. Could it indeed be the belkin hardware?

I have a Belkin N1 router and it works fine. Though all are computers are connected via ethernet. So is your wireless device the USB adapter? I had horrible experiences with it, and it would drop the connection always. I'd recommend getting an N1 Wireless Desktop Card, or just going to the router Via Ethernet. Also try changing the wireless channel.

Aw man, even though the microwave and whatnot is 40 feet away from the router, don't rule it out as a primary cause for the signal loss. I know that my old 2.4ghz land line phones used to make my wireless drop out every time a call came in. Went out the day I noticed it was the phones, and bought a 5.8ghz system.

If you have a buddy nearby with a wireless router, see if you can use his in the same spot that yours is. It would be a good test to see whether it is the router itself or RF interference.

apart from a wireless channel option, some routers have an option to change the power setting... have you been in your router's UI at all? I haven't seen you mention that you've changed any settings in the router.

that caught my attention... you have a Belkin router. What is that connected to? is it connected to a modem or a gateway, such as a 2wire? what brand/model is your DSL modem?

as far as EMI is concerned, try having the router at least 5ft away from any electronic device, big metal items, lamps, water... do you have dimmer switches throughout your house?

they are very cheap... still, since you have this issue with other laptops/adapters, I would rule it out for now
