When i upgraded my graphics card from a crappy ATI Radeon X300 graphics card to a Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT 512MB, my internet connection basically died. It now says "Status: Limited or No Connectivity" and has a speed of 10.0 Mbps instead of its normal 100.0 Mbps. The connection also shows the message even when I have the modem disconnected and connected to something else like my xbox 360. I have an cable connection directly from a modem. The modem still works because I'm using it to connect this 4-year old laptop that I'm typing with. The card required 300W of power and I have 305W if that might be a problem.

Any suggestions or hints as to what caused this problem?

Have you tried, upgrading your motherboard drivers, graphics drivers, uinstalling any drivers or devices, or anything like that? I don't think it is a PSU issue.

I would say try putting the other card back in and see if the problem persists.

Almost 100% yes, you have a power problem. The card having a 300w reccomendation would be for a basic motherboard, single core processor, one fan, and one HDD. If you PC has a good mobo (onboard LAN), you have more than 1 fan, more than one HDD, a sound card, etc etc, you're outside your power limits. NEVER be on the limits of what the manufacturer states you'll need for power, as 95% of the time you'll actually be under.

By the way, I have put in my old graphics card and the problem still persisted.

Try either uninstalling the LAN device from Device Manager.

Then reboot the computer. Then reinstall the drivers. Make Sure You Have Drivers First!

I am pretty sure that something may have happened with the drivers.

If your using static IP addresses, someone might be on it as well which causes issues. More likley tho your usin DHCP and same thing with IP's can happen if someone sets up a static in there.

You have obviously restarted your computer... so im gona throw that out...

Open up your command prompt...start>run>cmd and click ok

To view ip info type
ipconfig -all

Let me know the Default Gateway, IP address, and just confirm if you have at least 1 DNS server.

Then type
ping www.google.com
if that doesnt work then type
ping 64.233.167.99
thats www.google.com ip address

Let me know the results of all of that.

Would the drivers be on discs the computer came pre-packed with?

Yes. Why are you using a Class B Address such as 169? Use 10.10.10.1 or 192.168.1.1 I have found that those work so much better.

Also, what is your gateway? You don't have one setup?

ipconfig release

then ipconfig renew
or use system restore to a date it worked
