it could possibly just be the actual power supply itself. check that first, but yeah modems do die just like anything else

it always has power to it, all of the lights actually stay lit, then then one by one go down, tahts why i still wonder if its the modem or comcast.

cause i do seem to exceed the limits of my package, i do have 7 computers on the internet on a 4mb plan.

Check to see if comcast has a modem firmware update.

Overheating is the #1 cause of problems with home networking equipment. most people shove routers\modems\switches etc behind PC's, under cabinets, etc etc, and as they age they become more seceptiable to overheating. Move your modem into a well ventilated area and see if the problem goes away.

Does it completely shut off or reset itself? You should test and see if the modem works alone on a single machine. Then if it does reconnect back to your router and ping your gateway/ and ipconfig and see if your gateway values are correct it should be something like "192.168.0.1". I dont think your having an ip conflict as you said your only problem is with your modem. Overheating is very possible, so is static. What model modem, how old is it?!!
