No, thats not what i saying... If you dont set a standard you can POSSIBLY be stuck with a crappier standard if someone from G or B decides to connect. It will change from N to the lowest one..... without you knowing it...

Well the wireless range is the reason I would buy that router. My friends have the same Wireless N Gigabit router that I have and the Linksys Gaming router and we brought it over here to test it. I can't get more than 2 bars outside my house and about 5 bars when I'm upstairs and about 4 bars when I'm downstairs. His router gave me 5 bars throughout my entire house and 3 bars outside. That's the basis for my statement.

That was done using 4 different laptops of different sizes using Wireless N and G. One 17, one 15.4, one 13, and another 21. So uhm yeah. It seemed to worked fine.

oh and the other thing is if i were to get one of these n based routers would it be compataible with a ps3 and wii?

like i say i also need the wireless adapter for this stuff in a minute

Yes it would be compatible with PS3 and Wii as it will support B/G standards.

Routers support multiple standards simultaneously. If someone is on a 802.11g and 802.11n, then your router support both 802.11g and 802.11n simultaneously.

Also, some of the gaming routers have better processors. Just because a router supports a standard, it does not mean all routers perform the same. Oh, 802.11n is NOT a stardard since it hasn't been ratified yet.

Indeed N is still in ''Draft'' stages. Its cheeky how some manufacturers will pretty much advertise it as a full blown standard. Netgear like to do that.

Currently i have a D-Link DIR-655 draft N wireless router. And have had great experiences with it. Have had it over 6 months and haven't had any problems with it. Setup was very easy.

My router is on the third floor with my main PC. The PC that I have on wireless gets 5 bars of signal through 2 floors (pc is on the first floor) and i pull down 130mbs. I have brought my laptop outside and to my neighbors house 2 doors down and get 2 bars of signal pulling down at 54mbs.

My D-Link DGL-4300 outperforms the WRT54GL in simulanteous connections and total throughput (needed for torrents).

DGL-4300 = 132Mbps, 180 connections
WRT54GL = 36Mbps, 64 connections

I had a DD-WRT WRT54GS (ver 6) and my new router performs better.
