Will clearing the CMOS reset a computer's name on a network?

I doubt it. It just resets the motherboard to stock settings.

No. A computer name is an OS value and not a motherboard value. The only network identifier on your motherboard itself is the MAC of your onboard NIC.

To change the computer name on a network.. right click on my computer and goto Computer Name.. should be able to set it there if you have administration rights.

Right click on my computer and hit properties.
Go to the tap up top called "Computer Name". Click on the button that says "Change...". And type in a new name!

do you have a network admin that has a local user account that can log on and change it for you?
