Default Windows cannot access \\Laptop\E-Data

I have a network issue that's driving me up a wall. I want to network my desktop (Vista Ultimate) with my laptop (Vista Business).

I can share printers and public folders between the two machines just fine. However, I have drive partitions and extra drives that are shared and I want to access those drives over the network.

But I get this error. [bold]Windows cannot access \\Laptop\E-Data[/bold] Clicking on "Show Details" gives Error Code: 0x80070005. Access is denied.

Password protected sharing is turned OFF. I don't see what else could be wrong. I did some googling and I've read that you can try creating user accounts with the same username & password. Seems terribly annoying to do, and besides Password protected sharing is turned OFF.

Anyone have ideas?

I've seen it before, you will need to put a password. Vista is stubborn. (at least try that)

Not sure, since I don't normally use Vista.

Is Simple File Sharing off? (Not sure if they got rid of that or not)
Have you tried setting the IP's of each machine to a static address and then tried doing it?
Have you attempted to ping?
Have you set permissions correctly for each of the folders and or files?

Simple File Sharing doesn't exist in Vista in the same way it did in XP.
I can ping each machine from the other
I sure think I have the permissions set correctly.

I have Everyone/Guests/Users/Dave set to Full Control. I would think only Everyone is required.

This is my home PC and I shore dowanna enter a password everytime I bootup my desktop. I hope I don't need a password setup.

Edit: I did need to setup a separate user account with a password and it worked with password protected file sharing. Rather annoying, but it works.

On the folder or drive that you're trying to share you need to add the username for the account that you into the desktop with to give it access. The "everyone" really never works .

So if on the desktop the username is "joebob" go the laptop and on the security for the shared resource add "joebob" with modify rights.
