Default Cable Modem randomly resets on me.

Hello,

I've currently got Cox Communications as my cable internet provider. I'm using the Motorolla modem they gave me then I'm using a router off of it. From time to time the internet connection will be lost on both of my computers. I'll glance over at the modem seeing that all the lights, but the power, go blank and then come back, restoring the internet connection. This began a month or so ago then it seemed to stop, but it's been happening again on and off again the past two days.

I called Cox and they sent someone out yesterday. He checked things out (ran something similar to SpeedTest but was specific to Cox and checked some settings in the Modem itself), but it all checked out ok. Of course while he was here, it didn't loose connection, either. He verified that there wasn't any issue with Cox during the time I was having problems as well.

So my question is has anyone else encountered a problem such as this? Any suggestions for getting the issue resolved? Cox didn't seem to help at all, but I'll probably give them a call again. I might add that the guy from Cox didn't think there was a problem with the Modem itself, but could he be wrong and maybe this is a sign of the modem going bad? I've had it for 5 years or so.

Thanks for any help you all can provide.

same thing happened to me before, when i had the motorola modem. It actually is the modem. i had mine replaced with an RCA one and everything worked great after that, i'm still using it. just call them again and tell them to replace it and give credit for the down time.

I have had to replace 2 cable modems in the past 5 years... this last one is working great... tho its only been like 4 months....

It happens, not much to worry about, give them a call and let them know its broken. They will send a techie over there to make sure its broken and then they will replace it.

I am having the same problem.

Though mine doesn't randomly shut off, mine just doesn't like to read my full output and input. So I am getting throtled.

Just call them up like everyone said. Even if they think everything is fine, usually alot of the problems resolution is just swapping out crappy Modems for better ones.

Ok, thanks for the replies guys. It's good to hear that other people have/are in the same boat as me with a problem such as this.

I did give them a call and a tech will be coming out on Tuesday, which was the earliest time that I could do. Hopefully the issue can be resolved this time.
