I currently connect to the internet using an open wireless connection using a Linksys WMP54GX card. However, my laptop will NOT pick up this signal, so I would like to be able to send it through out the house for my laptop. Most wireless routers or all of them, need a modem for the PC to communicate with the router, if I have two lan ports on my PC, can I do this without the modem? I've googled extensively, but no success. Any help is appreciated.

I'm not entirely sure what you are asking: you claim that you are accessing a wireless network (that is connected to the internet, which requires a modem), but that your laptop won't access that same network. I don't understand how you intend to create a wireless connection to the internet for your laptop without having a modem in the equation. Another question comes to mind, do you know WHY your laptop cannot access the network that your desktop can? Is it a wireless G network configured only for G access, and your laptop has a wireless B card?

Routers don't need a modem connected to be able to communicate with computers, just type in the IP address of the router (usually 192.168.0.0 or some derivative of that) in to your web browser and you will be able to access it.

Anyway, could you please rephrase your question? I'm having trouble understanding what you are trying to accomplish.

Connect 1 LAN port on the PC to the router. Now bridge the PC's wireless connection to that lan connection (or enable ICS). Use a static IP for the LAN port (such as 192.168.2.10) and disable DHCP on the router. Setup the router to use 192.168.2.10 as it's default gateway on the WAN port. Now give the laptop a static IP address higher than the desktop (such as 192.168.2.11) and set the gateway on the laptop to the IP of the PC.
