Exclamation Avast help please.

Ok guys I downloaded Avast anti-virus free edition. Im using avast now because AVG though it would be cool to delete some windows files and caused me to reformat, Anyways I got avast and well I clicked on a site to try to find a myspace layout and I think I got a virus. Is there a way to start a virus scan with avast? I know AVG had somthing that said "Start PC scan now" I dont see that on Avast. Help please?

If you have the icon on your taskbar, go to Start Avast Anti Protection...

There should be an icon, depending on what skin or version you use that says something similar to the effect of Scan Local Computer, Scan Local Hard Drive(s), Scan Computer, etc.

If you can't find that, then Avast should have already alerted you... It has done that to a couple of my false positive files already.

Start Avast, let it run do the usual mem scan when i starts up. After is loads click on the upward pointing arrow in the upper left corner & click on "schedule boot time scan" & it will run a scan at next boot up, delete any viruses found at boot scan. This is for the boot scan only, you can do the regular scan as described by GHO. I like using the boot scan for the first scan for a new install of Avast on an already infected computer. BTY, Avast works really good for me, hasn't let me down yet.

Also, I have a question for you...

In your "chest" under system files... does it have winsock and kernel32.dll in there?

BTW, I am glad that I had just said that, because install.exe popped up on my computer... again. That was the same virii that happened last time. Deleted that. Quick!

It will only go to your chest if you send it there, if you delete it, it doesn't go to your chest. Look at the log files to see what Avast found & what action was taken. I personally delete anything Avast finds, I never send to the chest, so far that has worked for me.
Edit: Keep in mind the chest stores the viruses in the infected files folder in chest, the files under system files are supposed to be there, I believe they are for restoring if the system files get infected.
