Default Can't uninstall antivirus program

For some reason, I found my mom's computer installed with a second antivirus program(it already had AVG) called Antivirus 2008, but I want to get rid of it due to annoying features it has(like scanning every hour) that I can't disable. The problem is, I can't figure out how to unintall it. Help?

I am assuming that you already went to your control panel add/delete programs uninstall.

I have had this same thing happen with me as well. Only with two versions of Kaspersky anti-virus.

What I did and always prepare for is a fresh install of the os. In fact I always backup all of my info. in several different places so that I can start off fresh.

While you may not want to hear this for advice in this peticular situation it is exactly what you likely will need to do to solve the issue.

its not a real scanner its a bug. they can be hard to remove.

use these

http://www.hijackfree.com/en/

http://www.emsisoft.com/en/

both are free

you need to find the process in highjack free and kill it then hope to find it with the scanner. if this doesnt work post back

edit: man you guys type fast

also even if you just delete it there will be a reinstaller check the start-up files with highjack

This is an old computer and doesn't have any install discs around, so reinstalling the OS is not an option. I'll give those links Dennis provided a try though.

I understand I use to not have backed-up info. or os disks...now it is essential for any professional work done using the computer as it gives you the option of not paying for or having to follow links or the run around...also separate drives one or series(raid) of drives for your operating system...

And, separate drive for your backup data...allows you to circumvent quagmires...

Also, new Windows Vista os is free....lol...so paying for an os disk should not effect your having one.

There is a huge difference. Kapersky is good antvirus, the thing he has is a virus. I can't believe you would give such horrible advice as to "prepare for is a fresh install of the os".

You sound like a retard from the GeekSquad for even suggesting that.

Use AVG and if necessary Avast just for the pre-boot scan. Sounds like a common virus to me. should be no problem. Don't let anyone tell you to reinstall your operating system because of a stinking virus.

I ran the scanner I downloaded from emsisoft, but it did not detect and remove Antivirus 2008.
