Default Intel(R) PRO/1000 GT Desktop Adapter?

I've been having gradually increasing connection problems when I play this game Age of Empires III, where I disconnect during a game even though I am still perfectly connected to the internet. I haven't changed any router settings while these problems have increased, in fact most of my settings are on default.

While browsing through my network connections to see if there were any problems, I noticed I have a disconnected Intel(R) PRO/1000 GT Desktop Adapter on my computer. My computer is almost a year old (the information on my tag is not of my current computer (edit: now it is)) and I do remember paying a little money for something like this, that's suppose to improve your internet speed when gaming or something??

Does anybody know what this thing is? Should I make use of it? My two main connected devices appear to be NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller, and a 1394 Net Adapter. I have no idea about what these things actually are, nor any idea how network adapters work. Any info would be appreciated.

What is your networking cable plugged into?

The Intel card? The Nvidia card? or the 1394 connection?

It would depend more greatly on that.

I'd be more apt to suspect that your router is the problem. Most home level routers have a problem of keeping to much cache, and not dumping it often enough. If you've had your router up for more than a month (on constantly for more than 1 month) you should hard reset it. This is very likely going to make your issues far less impactful.

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you guys, but I'm back here to do some discussing. I just held this button that I assumed to be the "hard reset" button on my router, but I'm not entirely sure that was it since all the settings in my 192.168.1.1 page are the same (or is it supposed to be that way?).
edit: redid this, and all of the settings are reset.

I'm not sure what my networking cable is plugged into. How can I find this out?

My god, I can't believe how simple that router reset strategy was. Seems like most of my connection issues have gone away. Is there any reason to use that Intel(R) PRO/1000 GT Desktop Adapter, and hook it up?

edit: nvm, it looks like all the issues came back.
