Do you have them both connect to a router or anything like that? If so just enable file sharing and then create a shared folder. Then just browse to the other computers IP or name and you will be able to see the files.

I learned this the hard way,
Make sure you have the latest updates on the XP machine, Vista implemented a new version of SAMBA without telling anyone......couldn't figure out why for the life of me I could ping both machines, see both machines, but couldn't log on to either.
