Some NIC's have MDI-X and MDI on them. Which can automatically correct itself.

Modem -> Server -> PC (via cross over?)
So you have no Router in that setup? Is your server providing DHCP and DNS? can you do "ping [servername]" ? I'm betting there is a conflict with the naming. Best solution is to pick up a router and share internet through it. what i think is happening is the mstsc is saying "I'd like to talk to [servername] also known as 192.168.0.1" and it's saying "But I'm 192.168.1.1"

At the moment its:
Modem > Wireless Router > Wireless PC1 > Cat 5 Crossover > Server For testing right now its not hooked up to the 25' Cat 6 ethernet... Its going to be: Modem > Wireless Router > Wireless PC1 > switch > Server1 Server2 Server3 Ect... I have a switch on the to get list, but this was just for something in the mean time. I am connected to my wireless network, and the LAN network is seperate... Ie my wireless IP is 172.xx.xxx.x and my lan IP is 192.186.0.1 It works flawlessly if I choose not to share the internet connection, which I may just due...I don't need to fold.

what did pinging the servername from the PC give you? look on the server and see what it's IP is on the internet connection side (not the one running to your comp)

Sorry for the double post again, but I got online with the server after tweaking a few connection settings...
IP is the same, router has not released anymore ips, it looks like I am browsing through my vista machine, using it as a DNS server...I cannot tell from the outside that I am browsing from a machine other than my vista workstation...If thats news... Again, though, when I disable internet connection settings I am unable to raise the machine from RDC...

If you get your internet connection working on both computers via DHCP, just use http://www.logmein.com for your remote desktop needs.

Thanks for the Suggestion Kren, but that is definitely not a viable solution for myself, since internet connection to these machines needs to be kept to the bare minimum, that will not quite work for me...Thanks though!
Unless, no one from the outside could possibly get inside the lan network while I am sharing connections...

You could always use VNC, SSH, telnet to login. Get old school baby!
![]() So the internet works on both machines now? What settings did you tweak?

It was a combination of things, I enabled IPv6, disabled authentication, set the host as DNS, and tweaked a setting here and there, I forgot, last night was blurry. So, now that I HAVE to have a shared connection to RDC I installed PeerGuardian to view my PC traffic while the connection is shared, nothing seems to be touching it if I don't access the internet with it...Do you think that's a good packet monitoring program? I just read about it on some forums.
I may try VNC, I absolutely need it to be a graphical connection for work stuff.. Thanks.
