If you know what you are doing, then yes. Most household users don't know how to get around things like this though.

That is very true, in fact they are only more of a nuisance than anything else to someone trying to get into your network. But, if you had read the article, you would see that I said that using all of them together is much more effective than just one or two. This is more to keep people unaware of what they are doing or script kiddies from accessing your network. And a possible intruder, seeing so many things in place would most likely find an easier target since you would obviously know at least a bit about networks. There are many very easy targets that you just need to make it difficult so they don't want to waste their time on yours. That being said, if they want to get into your network, they are going to get in. Just like a burglar, if they really really want to get in your house, they will.

These are just deterrents, like you putting a lock on your front door. Someone can still come along with a sawzall and cut your door in half, but that doesn't happen very often.

Most WEP-only routers *should* be able to support WPA with a firmware upgrade, since WPA was just a hotfix based on WEP. WPA2 is an encryption that may be hardware specific.

I don't get why people go through the trouble of adding mac filtering to a WPA2 secured network. Until long WPA2 passphrases can be cracked, Mac filtering just seem's like an annoyance.
Even if someone were to crack your super long WPA2 password somehow (supercomputer?), he can then get through mac filtering with his eyes closed.
(scan for client bssid's, then use one command to spoof your MAC. Simple)

I think you missed the point. It is just one more thing to keep people out. Let's say your son / daughter gives the password for the network to a friend, no cracking needed. Chances are, however, the person doesn't have enough skills to spoof a mac address. So they still can't get on.

I'm saying you don't need everything, but the more the better for security.

MAC filtering certainly will stop a networking nub, but it won't stop the guy who's wardriving because he wants to download child porn. That's where WPA2 comes in.
