Default Internet shutoffs

I have this problem where I will be working on my computer, browsing overclock.net, playing BF2, what ever, when the internet will shutoff. Every thing reads normal, windows gives me no connection errors, the router lights are green, the Ethernet cables are connected and ALL OTHER COMPUTERS ON THE NETWORK ARE FINE.

Restarting my computer doesn’t fix it. The only way to fix it is to shut down my computer, power cycle the router and cable modem, then turn my computer back on. If I power cycle with my computer on, or try ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew it says I have "limited or no connectivity". What the hell is going on here!?!?

Try a different NIC and also try a new Ethernet cable. Check to make sure that you have the latest drivers for your NIC.

I have tried a different Ethernet cable, but I think you might be on to something with the network card. It is an on-board adapter and it has some problems, so I think I will try that.

well, since none of the other computers on the network are affected, it is something local on your computer. Check for spyware, viruses, etc. Also try turning off the Windows ICF. Since you have a router with a built in hardware firewall the Windows one is essentially unnecessary. I still think it is hardware related, but it can't hurt to try other things.

Do you guys by chance run ZoneAlarm on XP? I've had great experiences with that program on different Windows versions except for XP, which has been all but horrible. After a few minutes, ZA would sever my connection. Shutting down the software immediately restored it. I've talked to a few people on here who have had the same problems, so it's not an isolated problem.

This may not be the issues you guys are having, but if you do run ZoneAlarm, try something else for a while and see if that doesn't help your problem.
