One question: Would you prefer Avira over AVG 8.5? Is it worth the download?

+1 for Advanced System Care (+Smart Defrag), and TuneUp utilities somewhat (more for tweaking and such - but has some useful security tweaks).

I honestly would chose Avira. Although both are excellent the additions made to Avira 9 have made it amazing for a low impact anti-virus. So far it has one of the highest AV detection rates out there, and it's FREE

Yes, I have a suggestion -- a tutorial of my own actually:

1) Delete Windows
2) Install a Linux distro
3) Put Your *nix box behind a good firewall (like a WRT54GL with Tomato)
4) Enjoy safe computing.
