Yup, just read over the manual, they look like Realteks.

Wow, you were pretty much right on the price Duckieho, the only place I can find selling them is selling just the board for $334 (euro's I think)!

The Realtek's will just have not as good performance as other NIC's right?

Realtek's are probably the worst of onboard NICs. They work but they probably won't break 100MB/s.

You can use the laptop as a Re-Router which helps to protect the network.

Which network cards are best? I know Intel is highly recommended, but what about cheaper brands?

Hi guys do you think Untangle would be suitable in a business environment, if not what could you recommend that has similar functions and capabilities of Untangle? I've looked at Cisco products but I have no idea

I would greatly appreciate any help

Untangle is a UTM and targeted at businesses/enterprises.

Check out Endian as well.... both are cheaper alternatives to Cisco.

Depends on your business needs.

Depends on your business needs.
The business needs something that is a firewall, does IPS, blocks hacks and even a website filter perhaps. I have no idea what UTM means either and I am completely new to this. Untangle is the only thing I know of that satisfies the criteria. Currently the Trend Micro installed on the computers provides a website filter but when it blocks the website it tells the user how to unblock it which is something that I wouldn't want there.

Endian looks interesting, especially this one, but what is the hard drive for? It also looks pricey at $1200 USD - I don't want to know how much the Cisco products cost now. Is there much difference between Endian and Untangle in functionality? Untangle seems very flexible with all the apps that are supported.

EDIT: Actually Untangle seems to fit the bill perfectly, have a few questions relating to Untangle now, does Reports itemize usage even if the websites visited are not offending any filters? I'm using NICs are ethernet sockets (Where the blue cable goes in) and whats the difference between inline and dmz NICs? Thanks!

UTM = Unified Threat Management..... basically a firewall with lots of fancy extra defense features.

As for Endian, the basic software is open source. You don't have to buy their hardware. If you have a free machine, just install it to test it out.

DMZ is a NIC that isn't behind a firewall so it's exposed. Web servers are generally in a DMZ while the rest of the network is behind the firewall. Even better would be two firewall... one for the DMZ and one for the LAN.
