Default Help me increase my speed at home please 272 kb/s for wireless g is ridiculous!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...&Tpk=DIR%20615

My dad just bought this router and was wondering if anyone wants to explain to me in terms I will understand of what DD-WRT is and the benefits I'll have if I flash this firmware with DD-WRT. My first rig is upstairs with a linksys g adapter but it seems that it's not really performing like it's supposed to. I'm trying to game but it seems like its lagging really bad. I am a real nub when it comes to routers and DD-WRT but I'm trying to learn. Thanks in advance all, it's much appreciated (the help).

here's my speed test, it's soo slow!

Um....

Have you powercycled your modem?

(Sorry, I didn't even read, I just saw the picture and laughed).

Do you have a switch or hub in between your PC and router? Can you remove it?

Are you sure you set up DD-WRT correctly? Things like this can happen if they weren't set up correctly.

I've powercycled my modem.

I don't understand what a switch or hub in between my pc and router means. I'm connected unwired.

I didn't set DD-WRT up yet, trying to understand it more, hoping someone can help me. I've read the website, but I can't understand that language. Just want to know what benefits I'll get from it as a home user/gamer.

Thanks!

So I figured out that my hardware revision for my DIR-615 is only an A1 revision but the DD-WRT is only compatible with the B2 revision. What can I do to make my internet better?

I've got that router, and it is a VERY GOOD router. I think you have another problem to fix that DD-WRT will not do anything about.

it's a great router, but the download speeds on my 1st sig rig are very low. the rig has a wireless g linksys adapter. so what other problems might it be?

should I change the 802.11 mode from b/g/n mixed to g only? there are only laptops and iphones with wireless g adapters anyway.

also this is the speeds with my dads laptop wired:

going to do unwired now:

Bump, sorry couldn't wait 2 more hours. If anyone can recommend me a router dedicated forum that's very reputable let me know. It seems no one can fix my problem here and I can't find a good forum.

I'm not sure if signal strength is an issue for you, but I found these - boosted by signal strength from 2 to 4 bars (out of 5) They work great.

Holly hell, that's a massive powerboost extension on the upload speed. I only get 550kb\s (320kb\s rated on speedtest.net), you get 1MB\s...

It's possible when you did that test someone was downloading something very, very fast.
