Funny you ask because the one that I bought and worked was a linksys. I've pretty much recommended and stuck with linksys. Never had any issues. If you just bought it try and exchange it for another.

Um....well one more thing you can try...if you have another PC try installing the adapter on it and see if it is successful.

Did you try using Linksys Wireless Adapter software?
If you disable WEP and leave the router unsecure, do you still get that message?
You know that if you leave the ethernet cable plugged in will take precedence over any wireless connection.

If that doesn't work, then yeah. Update your routers firmware if possible.

I had a situation like that couple of months ago. What utility are you using to connect? With me it turned out that the utilitie that came with my wireless adapter was competing with windows aero, even tho win zero was disabled. Basically i ripped out the utility and reverted to win zero and haven't had problems since.

Have you tired no WEP? I know for me I couldn't get WEP on my Linksys router to work with Vista. Using WPA2 worked though.
