Default Need some help on switches and a NAS

Well, I am in need of a switch with at least 24 ports and a gigabyte ethernet, it is for about 17 computers at school. I was looking at some on newegg but I am not familiar with switches and would like a opinion on some. There isn't a budget but would be nice if below $1k.

For the NAS, I had a few picked out but I can't seem to find the email which I saved them >_< The NAS needs to support raid 5 and gigabyte Ethernet.

btw, I thought about building a custom pc and just adding a raid card to it, it would support more then enough hdd and would be about the same price...

Forget the NAS.... just build a file server. For your needs, you will probably need one for more finite control.

You don't need a RAID card as onboard RAID is probably good enough.

To answer most of your questions: (1) a fridge cannot cool a PC (2) 64-bit OS for over 3.4GB (3) If a PCIe card fits, it should work (4) Resolution, not screen size (5) If you have a question, it is not news (6) Report, not respond to Spam (7) Single-Rail/Non-Modular PSUs are not always better than Multi-Rail/Modular (8) Sequential does not matter as much as random for OS drives

Yeah just build a file server, and only get a dedicated card if you want to use RAID 5 or 6. But keep in mind that depending on the space you need it might be cheaper to simply use onboard RAID10 instead of getting a dedicated card.

As for the switch, is there any specific support you're looking for? SNMP? L2 or L3 LACP? L2, L3, or L4 QoS? RAIDUS? etc...

First of all, just to correct things I think you are looking for "gigabit" speeds. Sorry that mistake bothers me.

I agree with both the file server suggestion and the questions for more information about the switch. Although for 1K you can get a very hefty switch.
