Ever since we upgraded to a new Road Runner modem, our network takes a dump if I try and torrent even the smallest of files. For say, an anime or TV show, the network will crash at least 3 times before I can finish downloading them. Each time requiring a hard modem/router reset.

Any suggestions?

Is Road Runner blocking torrent traffic? Are you sure it's just when you try to download a torrent? Is your cable connection dropping totally? Check the cable box the next time it happens to see if the Cable light starts to blink or stays solid.

Is it a connection storm? Try limiting the number of connections to 30-100.

yup set max allowed connections to like 30 and slowly raise it till you can hit your max. Some router/modems are just garbage.

No, the network isn't blocking torrent traffic.
And the cable box is completely unrelated/unconnected to our network so that doesn't matter.

I guarantee it's your router, some of them are complete **** and can't handle too many connections. Try limiting to 20 or 30.

I have a <$100 WRT610N and I have yet to crash it. I've had >500 simultaneous connections on it a few times without crashings.

no its cable, but they aren't connected to our cable box at all

nah it isn't my router because when it goes down, simply resting the modem fixes it. Not to mention, the problem didn't exist until we upgraded the old 1997 modem we had.
