i dont think a modem will limit your speed, your ISP will for sure though

Your modem is not the only contributing factor to your current bandwidth speeds.

A couple things that can affect your download and upload speeds:
-Torrenting (illegal or legal)
-Uploading Youtube Videos
-Gaming
-Malware
-Type of connection (DSL, Cable, Hub, Star, etc)
-Users on network
-Simultaneous connections

In theory, you shouldn't be able to access much of any settings on your modem.

If you are asking for a router setting that will help optimize internet speeds, the modem doesn't necessarily affect speeds either. Your ISP may give more priority to higher assigned IP's, obviously dependent on your MAC address for this.
