What is a good Free anti-virus security package for my fresh Windows 7 Ultimate x64 install. I'd consider anything but AVG, its quite a fail antivirus in my opinion.

Try Microsoft Security Essentials - it's supposed to be a lightweight but effective AV. I'm running avast! on both of the systems I use regularly. Avast is not at all intrusive and does the job well.

Others would also recommend Avira, but I've never used that myself.

I used AVG on a test computer i have, downloaded a few virus' and put them on the computer. AVG picked up NOTHING. downloaded NOD32 and it picked up every single one. I personally do not want to spend $50-$60 for one year on nod32 though.
