My server is running Windows Server 2008 R2. Under Hyper-V, I have an XP client VM installed for torrenting (using the bittorrent client). The client is connected to the external network directly through a dedicated NIC on the server.
Now here's the problem. Bittorrent is configured to automatically move a completed download to another folder. If the other folder is also on the VM's virtual disk then everything works fine. However, if the folder is a shared folder on the host OS (\\server\share\) then the download ends up corrupted during the move. But moving it through Windows Explorer does not corrupt it. And even with a corrupted download, when doing a Force Recheck with bittorrent it shows no errors (so it still thinks all the pieces are there). I have confirmed this by downloading the same Fedora torrent 5 times and checking the MD5 in all cases. Anyone know how to get the automatic move to stop being corrupted?

Have you tried looking into an external solution: IE, eSATA enclosure.
I had a very similar problem to this, and I could not get anything to solve the problem. One Member suggested that I setup a NAS, but that did not work for me at all. And no matter how small (Daniel_K drivers = 300MB) or how large (Ubuntu.iso - 3.9GB) I still ran into issues getting any form of automated movement to work. I was not using bit-torrent though. I actually was using uTorrent. Though, I've heard Deludge might be a solution. I haven't revisited this in a bit though, as I took down my Server 08 in prep for some stuff and never got it back up again (upgrading the system for larger storage/building custom case)

But nah I don't want to use anything external....the whole point of a server is to make your life easier, not harder lol. And yeah I don't see how a NAS would help, not unless it's a bug in Hyper-V with host communications. I'll look into that other client though. I also just thought of maybe using iSCSI to get the share over to the VM and have it 'think' it's a local drive, except I don't know of any software iSCSI initiators for XP.

I considered iSCSI since I have two NX II NIC's that have the iSCSI Offloading Engine
Check out this, it's from Microsoft, I had it bookmarked, but not touched it yet.

Sweet, that just might do it I think
![]() Only one of the NICs is iSCSI offload (the VM is connected through an onboard one) but it shouldn't be too bad

Check the FS section. Duckie is selling a NX II for cheap, it might be one of the iSCSI offload models.

I've got one of those lying around. I was gonna put it in my HTPC but I ended up using the slot for a graphics card.
