Can you enter the BIOS and put your dvd drive up as first boot device? If you tried booting from a cd like that already and it doesn't work it's probably something with your videocard.. do you have another one you could check with?

If you can't even get to bios its not a virus. Sounds to me like something died.

What makes you think this is a virus? It could be several other things. Have you downloaded anything strange and what websites did you visit before this occured?

Definitely sounds like a hardware failure. Since you can hear Windows open, that means the system is actually running. I'd bet it's the video card - perhaps one of the display controllers on it decided to retire early?
Just for an interesting side note, the only virus in recent memory that could actually cause hardware damage was CIH - released in 1999, it had the ability to brick certain BIOS chips by corrupting the data on it.

suspect either your video card, the video cable, or the monitor. you can try hooking the video card to the monitor using a different cable, or also possibly using a different connection type, ie VGA, DVI... depending on what you have available. Try a different (known working) video card, cable or monitor.

Once it goes black, it never comes back.
Also, what were you doing before this happened?

You might also want to try another expansion slot if one is available.
