I'm looking to a buy a new router for gaming as my internet provider recently came out as I was having issues with connection speed and he said he believes it to be a router issue and that it has fell a couple times (sadly thats true
). He recommended Net Gear or D-Link. Are these what Overclock.net would recommend as well?

Linksys all the way. D-link and Netgear are garbage.

Do you need wireless?
Wait for the upcoming Netgear WNR3500L.

If you like messing about with DD-WRT get a Linksys router for sure. I specifically got a WRT54GL for the purpose, but I'm sure the new N routers can also be flashed to use DD-WRT.

The reason that WNR3500L is well anticipated is because it advertises DD-WRT compatibility and the underlying hardware is beefy. Compare: WNR3500L = 480MHz CPU, 8MB Flash, 64MB RAM, 5x1Gb NIC, 802.11n WRT54GL = 200MHz CPU, 4MB Flash, 16MB RAM, 5x100Mb NIC, 802.11g
