Default Best Antivirus?

Which one?

Currently I've been using Malwarebytes, Spybot, Ad-Aware, McAfee..
but the problem is frequently Malwarebytes will detect things others won't, and the other way around.

Joking aside; AVG Free, Avast, Malwarebytes are probably some of the better ones.

Best option is to adopt safe internet practices.

Whatever you download, keep it for a week or two, then update one or two antivirus programs and scan it, then open it.

I don't have any active anti virus running, they just kill computer performance.

In all honesty though, if you are safe, you don't REALLY need one.

Ones I've trusted:
Clamwin
Avast
AVG
TrendMicro (but not for a long time, could have changed)

That's why you layer your protection...one av/malware program will have a different base than another.

MalwareBytes + SpyBot = good. I haven't used anything by MacA in years--it-s usually the very first thing I uninstall on a pc.

MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) seems to be working pretty darn well for me. I used to use Antivir Premium but put it on my girl's lappy instead...

Running 2 anti virus programs at the same time is a BAD idea

I myself never have anything actively running to maximize performance, I just use "scanners".

so should I just be sticking to spybot and malwarebytes?

MalwareBytes isn't real time, it's on demand--a scanner to be used when needed.

SpyBot with the Tea Timer activated and an AV running alongside it are fine; they don't conflict as they are searching out different things. The use MB for routine scans.

Personally I just use MSE and do the TrendMicro House Call every so often.

Edit: GameBooster 2 shuts everything down...unneeded services, processes and even your AV before gaming or rendering a video also. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Default Avast

I've had a lot of experience regarding the whole which should I use debate.

First of all, i'd like to mention before i get started that over the years my internet usage has remained the same. I have downloaded from a myriad of peer to peer file sharing sites and used third party applications that aren't exactly kosher.

With Norton and McAffee, I found that they created more headaches than what they were worth in value... They always install key loggers and dump a zillion files into your system registry. A big no no in my book. Plus, when you uninstall this software you can never get all the files off your system.

As for free, I finally was coaxed into trying avast. It's free, easy to use, and to my recollection, I haven't had any Viruses on my comp in years... Avast has identified every malicious software that I had, quarantined them and warned me that I should delete.
