I know that wireless 802.11n routers extend routers range for the N effect, but I was wondring if the routers would extend the range for the 802.11g devices/computers?

N has a longer range so I think you will be able to connect to it from further away with G.

I don't think an N router would extend the range of G signal unless the G radio in the router itself had more juice thrown at it. That is, if there even exists a separate radio for 802.11g.

not to jack this topic but can someone explain dual band N crap and if its even worth it if all your devices are a/b/g?

Ahem. Wireless N uses multiple antennas and thus has longer range, more power, etc. It also runs on the less crowded and better 5.4GHz sequence, which can support multiple overlapping channels. G runs on 2.4GHz, which can support up to three (I think). Keep in mind that your microwave is already included in there. I don't think G range is extended, per se, but N routers are nicer and more powerful, and should have better range by default.

IMO if all devices are not N capable it isn't worth it,the router will operate at the slower speeds of g(54Mbps).

Wrong. Dual band will use one set of antennas to operate at the lower G speeds on the 2.4GHz frequency; the other set will still run 300Mpbs N on 5.4GHz.

??? You still need N capable devices to get N speeds.Wireless g isn't going to go any faster.

How about less opinion? No It will not extend G. I mean if the answer is to OP? If not? I don't play in fantasy land. The greater capabilities of N vs G is not a better antenna? I mean come on guys if it was why not give G a bigger antenna?
Consider that? This is silly I cannot believe I will get infracted for this and this fantasy island stuff wont? |
