Default Recommendations for router

Afternoon all!

I wish to upgrade my current router as it was a free one provided by my ISP and it doesn't do what I want.

I currently have a Netgear dg834g v5 and its constantly killing my internet connection when using it for online gaming and downloading.

I'm after one with a good range, which is also good for online gaming and simultaneous downloads.

Oh and wireless.

cheers!

Also it must be compatible with Vista x64

Any router will be compatible with any operating system. Keep in mind you will have to get a DSL modem as well since your current router is a router/modem. I recommend the Linksys WRT54GL, Link. However, are you sure it is the router that is dropping the connection?

This, for sure. DD-WRT/Tomato ftw.

Eugh. Routers.

I hate choosing routers, but make sure since you're using wireless to get one with N+, it's the fastest wireless speed available as far as I know.

Since his current router isn't N, he probably doesn't have an N capabilities. That is more money to spend.

What is your budget for this?

N capabilities? I would've thought I'd just purchase an 'N' router and it'll be fine with my PC.

My budget is around £80.

I was looking at one of these : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=NW-112-LS

That router will work, but you will not be getting N speeds if you do not have an N adapter. If you only have a G adapter, it will only connect to the routers G antenna. That router has B, G, and N antennas. Since your previous router was only G I'm assuming you only have a G adapter on your computer.

Yep you're right I do have a G adaptor, but I'm quite happy to buy an N one.

So something like the router I suggested would be good?

If it's randomly dropping your connection, are there any cordless phones in the immediate vicinity?

Go on ebay and find a WRT54G. Great router. Make sure it is v2.

Here you go actually. http://tinyurl.com/ylgrr8g

31$. Buy that, then go on dd-wrt.com and read how to install the DD-WRT firmware on it, and then once youve done that up the signal power in the routers settings page (thru browser) and youll be set! haha

Thats what I got now and with it OC'ed I get 100% signal everywhere in our 2 story house! Outside in the yard we still get about 50% signal! haha
