Default WTH, my router(?) is being wack

Hi OCN.

Anyway, I've been noticing a lot of problems with my router (Linksys WRT54GS) and connectivity, both wired and wireless.

First off, in wireless terms, nothing can connect to my router except for my USB wireless adapter, model WUSB600N. I can't connect my dad's laptop, my mom's iPhone, etc.

Wired has even more problems. Occasionally I will have to redial my DSL line, plug it back into the router, and reconnect everything. The computer connected closest to the router works fine, but the long cable running from my router to my room doesn't work.

These problems are recent. I'm wondering if it's possible for a router to have a virus or something, because I use DMZ for gaming and *T word*ing. I've always used WEP, switched to WPA2, started having some issues, then switched back to WEP, and it still has issues with my dad's laptop and my mom's iPhone. Help?

My ISP is Bellsouth and my line is DSL.

Not sure about the wired bit, but for the wireless, mine was the same (not the same router though) I couldn't connect my iphone to the wireless for the life of me, I then changed the channel to 8 instead of 1 and bang my iphone connected straight up.

Best of luck

Do a factory reset on it and then try again

I used to have to reset allot. I have the same router as you. I replaced the internet cable that Verizon sent me and have had 0 problems since. I now have DD WRT on it and runs flawlessly

Try doing a hardware and software reset, then upgrade the firmware if possible. If not have you considered running DD-WRT?

I have considered running DD-WRT, but I'm just a bit wary; is its interface more user-friendly and/or similar to the Linksys firmware? I don't want to have to learn how to navigate through it all over again.

It has its similarities and differences with it being made from a different person.

Overall though, the setup pages are very similar, and you actually get more settings to configure.

Well, I'm pretty sure my dad would get pissed even though he's taking networking as a class >.>

I'll consider it.

Also, can you link me to a good tutorial on how to configure QoS correctly and stuff? Sucks that you can only prioritize one port at a time...
