Default Could my router be dead?

For some reason, when I have my computer connected through my router, it will not connect to the internet, dumb Windows thinks it is connected since my icon in my taskbar shows "connected 100mb/s" but when I go to a website, it always times out and stuff. If I connect my computer directly to my cable modem using either of the two wires it will work but if I connect the cable modem to the router and my computer to the router it will not work. My computer has worked on this cable modem>router>computer configuration for the past year and a half and suddenly today my router stopped sending signals with absolutely no provocation or warning! Could my router have died??

When you type 192.168.1.1 in the URL box do you get a prompt for username and pass? If so login and go to status and click on DHCP renew.

If that doesnt work go to network connections and right click on your active connection>>properties>>TCP/IP>>Properties>>make sure that obtain TCP/IP automatically is checked, aswell as obtain DNS automatically.

Ive had the problem twice, and thats the way i have fixed it in the past.(For some reason, windows kept reverting to incorrect static ip settings)

If you rest the Router then you will need to put in the Mac address again. Your cable modme may not be giving the router internet acces because it is not seeing the correct Mac address.

When you first got cable did you just have your computer then added the router later on? If so then make sure your router has the same Mac address as your computers nic card.
