-not arguing, just asking a question-

What would make it more noisy than running flat cat5? UTP Cat5 doesn't offer any kind of shielding, so removing the jacket shouldn't introduce interference? Keeping the pairs twisted should alleviate crosstalk. The individual wires are still protected, and as long as you use stranded wire, breakage shouldn't be an issue. In any case, someone posted earlier that they were using flat Cat5 @ 25 feet with no issues. That is probably the way to go.

Oh, and I'm sorry for being a whiny brat earlier...

A very knowledgable whiny brat however--my two cents--why would they make flat Cat 5 if it did not work? I use a 50 foot flat cat 5 with no issues whatsoever--sounds like nitpicking to worry about it--Cat 5 is good to 300 meters I believe--so what is the big deal about 1/3 that length?

300 feet, 100 meters... (not exactly, but whatever...)
I just prefer UTP because it is more durable than flat

Dude My jod is telecommunications,so just run some cat 5e (my preffered brand is Superior Essex).I don't really recommend running it under the carpet as it will shorten the life span of the cable due to people among other things stepping on it,and if you wanna due it the proper way then get rj45 jacks(or they may be called cat 5e inserts).
